Bio-Identical
Hormone Replacement Therapy
Replacing hormones that decline with age has been shown to have broad
anti aging and anti disease effect on the body in general and the
skin in particular.
The central nervous system (CNS) regulates the pituitary gland, which
secretes hormones to regulate tissues that, in turn, produce substances
that provide feed back to the hypothalamic-pituitary axis.
In humans, aging is associated with a decrease in the gonadal production
of estrogen in females (menopause) and testosterone in males (andropause);
the adrenal production of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) and DHEA sulfate
(DHEA-S) (adrenopause); and a decrease in the activity of growth hormone
(GH)/insulin-like growth factor (IGF) axis (somatopause). Individual
hormone replacement regimens are developed as a strategy to delay
or prevent some of the consequences of aging caused by these declining
hormone levels.
Bio-Identical Hormones
If you do choose hormone replacement therapy, we use only natural,
bio-identical hormone replacement therapy. Bio-identical hormones
are able to fully duplicate the original functions of our naturally
occurring hormones with little or no adverse side effect profile.
At the Center For Laser Surgery we will first test for your baseline
levels, explain to you safe target increases to achieve youthful levels,
and monitor you every 3-6 months with comprehensive lab work.
Our anti-aging physician, certified by the American Board of Anti-Aging
Medicine , will serve as your partner in achieving optimal fitness and
health.
Distribution of Fat in Aging
There are two kinds of body fat, central fat and peripheral fat.
The central fat around the waist and abdominal area is most often
noted in men and is associated with a number of diseases, including
atherosclerosis, type 2 diabetes, and syndrome X, which is characterized
by high blood pressure, insulin resistance, unfavorable cholesterol
profile, and premature atherosclerosis. Peripheral fat on the arms,
legs, or hips is less related to health problems and is generally
estrogen sensitive and seen in women rather than men.
Signs and Symptoms of Hormonal Decline and Aging
Permanent fatigue, poor resistance to stress, depression, low self
esteem, anxiety, obesity, sagging cheeks, wrinkled face, pouches
under the eyes, dropping triceps, thinned skin, obesity, thin hair,
thin lips,
loss of sex drive, depressed mood, frequent daytime and nighttime
urination are just some of the signs and symptoms related to declining
hormone levels.
Signs and Symptoms of Male Andropause
Andropause can have profound effects on physical health and sensed
of well-being in men, particularly on mood and libido. Some men even
experience sweating and hot flashes at night. Men experience a more
gradual and incomplete loss of testicular function with increasing
age, resulting in reduced testosterone and sperm production. Declining
testosterone is associated with loss of sex drive, fatigue, irritability
and depressed mood.
Signs and Symptoms of Female Menopause
Hot flashes, night sweats, weight gain, insomnia, mood swings, lack
of energy and decreased libido are often seen as a result of declining
estrogen hormone secretion in women.
Bio-identical hormone replacement carefully monitored by your anti-aging
specialist can safely reverse many of these symptoms.
