Nevus of Ota
Nevus of Ota Treatment in Washington, DC
Nevus of Ota or blue-black facial birthmarks are caused by an abnormally focused collection of melanocytes (pigment producing cells) in the upper dermis. This collection of cells causes a focal darkening of the overlying skin resulting in a bluish-black patch of skin. Nevus of Ota birthmarks are commonly found on the face, and are more common in women than men.
